Lake Dillon Fire honors firefighters, staff for service and actions

At its annual awards ceremony on Saturday, Lake Dillon Fire honored a number of firefighters, chiefs and staff for their service and actions.

Among those honored were Firefighter of the Year Steve Wantuck, Leadership Award recipient Assistant Chief Steve Skulski, and Chief’s Award recipients Firefighter Aaron Ferdig and Office Assistant Donna Trainer.

A special commendation also was awarded to the Silverthorne Police Department for its community involvement as demonstrated in its popular annual Safe Summer Kickoff and Adopt an Angel programs.

“Each year, we like to take note of jobs well done, service beyond the call of duty, bravery and heroism, and extraordinary service to our community and to honor those people whose dedication and actions reflect the highest calling of Lake Dillon Fire,” said Chief Jeff Berino. “We are extremely proud of our deserving honorees and hold them up as examples of what we as a department strive to achieve in the name of public safety and positive community involvement.”

The ceremony also recognized numerous LDFR employees who have received promotions, earned professional certifications and college degrees and achieved length-of-duty benchmarks in the past year.

Those earning longevity awards included:

  • Five years: Firefighter/medics August Guettlein and Case Byle, LDFR Fire Corps volunteer Dan Myers and LDFR custodians Glenda Daniels and Cheryllyn Goldsberry;
  • 10 years: Firefighter/technician Aaron Ferdig and Firefighter/medic Andrew Segura;

  • 20 years: Fire Corps volunteer John Young;

The awards ceremony, which will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Dillon Community Church Fellowship Hall, 371 E. LaBonte Drive, in Dillon, is free and open to the public.
