Lake Dillon Fire to honor 21-year-old life saver

Lake Dillon Fire’s Board of Directors and chiefs will honor Diego Andraca with the Citizen’s Valor Award at a ceremony at the board meeting on Tuesday.

Andraca, 21, is a bartender at Ruby Tuesday’s restaurant in Silverthorne who immediately performed CPR on a patron who collapsed in cardiac arrest on Aug. 9 and is credited with saving the man’s life.

“We are absolutely delighted with this young man’s quick actions, which meant the difference between life and death,” said Lake Dillon Fire Chief Dave Parmley. “It is fitting that he receives this top honor.”

Parmley also advocated that every adult and high-school student learn CPR, which now is being taught with a hands-only version that uses chest compressions but not rescue breaths.

Andraca will be honored at 8 a.m. Tuesday at Lake Dillon Fire Station No. 2, located at 301 S. Eighth Ave., in Frisco. The public and the press is invited to attend.
